LAS VEGAS—This week on his Let’s Talk Adult podcast, Glenn King interviews prominent labor attorney Karen Tynan in an episode that will be particularly interesting to members of the adult industry. The interview centers around new legislation being considered by the state of California that will force adult entertainment companies to pay performers as employees instead of as contractors.

“This legislation is going to have a huge impact on our industry. I have seen some passionate arguments on Twitter from sides who are for and against this bill, and have also seen a lot of tweets from confused performers who want to know more,” King said. “We in the industry need more information so we can prepare. As someone who has a podcast that is listened to by a large number of industry people, I decided to find an expert and ask her to lay it out for us in simple terms.”

King continued, “This podcast is not for consumption by the general public. Unlike my usual podcasts, there are no fun stories from set and no adult film stars telling us about the things that excite them … just information. As a result, we decided to do this podcast commercial-free. It’s more of a public service announcement than a podcast. We talked about all the legal aspects of the new legislation and then I asked my accountant to clarify some of the accounting aspects. I went back and added some of the accounting information.”

The show’s guest, attorney Karen Tynan, added, “Although some people wanted us to take a side on this issue, we felt like the best thing we could do for the industry would be to just lay out this information in an objective manner. We kept our discussion to ‘here is what AB5 is, here is what the impact would be, and here are the pros and cons’. The listeners can make up their own minds about how to proceed.”

Listeners can find the podcast by searching “Let’s Talk Adult” on iTunes, Spreaker, Google Play, Tunein, Spotify, IHeartRadio, YouTube, and anywhere else one can find podcasts.
