Awkward Encounters and Unrequited Crushes: A Coming of Age Story As a kid, growing up in the suburbs of east L.A. was pretty boring most of the time. Nothing exciting ever really happened. My name is Lucas, and in this story I am between 11 and 12 years of age at the beginning. This is the story of my life from 11 to about 16. My best friend in the entire world was Tommy, he was only a month older than me so we were always in the same class/grade in school, Thus, how me and Tommy met. Tommy only lived about 2 or 3 blocks from me so it was perfect, He lived with his mom and sister, Cassie. Tommy and Cassie are Fraternal twins. Cassie was always a very shy girl and never really talked to much, hell I barely ever heard her voice! She never was talkative and usually kept to herself when I was around so I never thought much of her. But the few times I did hear her talk and actually got a good look at her I always thought she was adorable, cute and kind of mousy. My first real encounter with her was during my Birthday when I decided to stay the night at Tommy's house. I woke up suddenly at about 3ish in the morning, but I couldn't figure out why I had woken up... I realized I had to pee so I got up and started off to the only bathroom on the second floor. When I got to the bathroom, I was to in a hurry to turn on the light so I just went in the dark. Just as I undid my pants and pulled down my briefs I heard a shuffling sound outside the door and spun around just in time to have Cassie turn on the lights! …the next moment changed everything
