The Beach Trip
I've never thought of myself as much of a looker. I wouldn't say that I'm ugly, but I never thought girls talked about me and I wasn't really sought after. I was more of the gal pal. I was always hanging out with girls, but I didn't think that any of them were interested in me. I'm 15, about 5'11", 150 pounds, and nothing really special. Brown eyes, brown hair, almost entirely average. I was pretty fit, due to my playing soccer, and very successful in school.
I'd gone all the way to the ninth grade without a serious girlfriend. I hadn't even made it to first base. I'd had my eye on one girl since about the fifth grade, Elly Hickey. She was perfect to me; long, dirty blonde hair, with beautiful blue eyes and a smile that lit up the world. She was about 5'4", maybe 105 pounds, and she was a star soccer player. It and school were basically all she did, and she was like me, very fit and very smart, but she never dated. I didn't understand why, because she could have had anyone she wanted, but I never asked. We had most of our classes together, because we were pretty much the smartest ones in our grade. Neither of us knew it was our brains that would bring us together.
