Captain Jack: You recently celebrated your 50^th birthday and you're still going strong! You look fantastic!

Syren de Mer: Thank you. Genetics, where I live; being in Seattle where there's higher humidity, but I think most of it has to do with genetics. And I try to live a low stress life and that probably plays a part in it too.

CJ: You mentioned how you and your husband were in the swinging lifestyle and that's how you got into porn. Were you very sexual before you met your husband? Or did he bring it out of you?

Syren: That's really an interesting question. I was somewhat promiscuous when I was younger. My mom tells me that I kissed in the back of the school bus when I was 5 years old. I played kissing games in elementary school. My first boy/girl party was in 5^th grade but I didn't lose my virginity until I was 15. Yes, I started young but didn't go crazy until later. Early 20s had my first girl experience, side-by-side sex, that kind of thing but didn't really get into BDSM until I was in my 30s when my husband got me into it.

CJ: Are you submissive or dominant?

Syren: I am submissive. I'll say sexually submissive. I have an A personality so I'm very organized, very anal retentive, independent, confident...all of those. But everything else is submissive. But it also depends on who my partner is. Through trial and error, I have found that because I am an A type, I don't submit to just anyone. They definitely have to have a stronger personality than myself.

CJ: You also said that you are really shy off-camera. That's strange, you're in porn, you're a swinger, yet you're shy.

Syren: I am really shy. (laughs) I am shy in large groups so you will never, ever, ever, ever see my publicly speaking. Small groups, I'm fine. That's all good and, at AVN, the convention part, I don't consider that a large group because that's basically still one-on-one. One person comes up to talk to you then another person or a few people. If I'm ever put on stage, it would be difficult for me. I don't have anxiety, I'm just quiet. If you see me at a large party or a club, I'm happy just sitting in my little corner watching people. I don't go up to people first, I wait for them to come up to me.

CJ: How long have you been in the industry now?

Syren: Since '06.

CJ: How did you come up with your stage name?

Syren: It was just because I was a fan of mythology, specifically Greek Mythology. The 'Syren' part fit my sexuality and my sexual appetite. When my husband and I would host monthly gangbangs, I would be going and going and going and going until the guys "died" and then I was still wanting more. 'Syren' kind of fit and it was just one of those things where it popped in my head. And it also fits my personality. I am spontaneous. I don't take a lot of time to think about things or process things because things usually just come easily to me. I was actually independent for about a year so, technically, I started in '05. 2006 was my first professional shoot. I was just Syren back in '05 and when I signed with Lighthouse in '06, I added a last name and it made sense to go with 'De Mer' because Syren is the mermaid of the sea.

CJ: So you just slipped one in past the goalie there; you and your husband used to host monthly gangbangs??

Syren: (laughs) Yes we did. They always varied in size. Usually, we would let the wives watch because they were MY parties. (laughs) So the wives and girlfriends would watch and I would have anywhere from three to eight guys. There was a birthday party where a good friend and I shared 21 guys. But I found that six was my magic number because I could have three or four guys around me, and they could tag team me and rest. That amount was good because the rotation was always consistent. And I was always kept busy. (laughs)

Syren: (laughs) My favorite constantly changes. I'm the type of personality who really enjoys the here and now. It's just a constant rotation. 5 years ago, I would have said 'this one!'. Now, no, because I'm a different performer and I'm a different person. The people I worked with are different. I have a hard time answering that question.

CJ: Who are some of your favorite performers and directors?

Syren: Any and all that I have not yet. And any and all that I have! (laughs)

CJ: What do you like sexually? What gets Syren wet?

So, now, and I'm sure porn has helped out because I have sex more than the average person, I've just learned just how to tweak the angle of pelvis or slight position movement where I know what feels good and I know how to get myself off. I've learned how to really let go. I used to be so aware. To a fault! Where I was trying too hard. Back then, I would have only one orgasm. Now, I still loved sex because I went most of my 20s without an orgasm. I didn't quite know how to do it. I would masturbate so I knew that type of orgasm. But when it came to sex, it took me a while to figure it out. Figure out how to attain it and, or course, having the right partners. And I think it was also just trying too hard. Now, I kind of just let it go and it just happens. Now, I can basically go on an orgasm train where I keep going. And going. And going. I was doing retail management and porn at the same time until my retail job found out and fired me. I had one of those "what am I going to do when I grow up' kind of moments. I was 40 and it happened. I actually thought about being a psychologist but, looking at 6-8 years of school at 40, probably not a great idea.

CJ: Do you ever get recognized in public?

Syren: Once in a while to where I know for sure. As in they would, they would carefully approach me and very shyly say, 'I'm sorry, but are you...' (laughs) 'Yes.' It usually happens in airports, of all places, but that's where I usually get recognized. Clubs, periodically, but most of the time, it'll be just walking down the street and then I'll see someone do a double take with the expression on their face of, 'Ah, I know you! You look very familiar but I just can't place you!' So I get a lot of that. Whether they actually recognize me, I don't know because they never come up to me. But 2 and 2 equals 4 and that's probably what it is.

CJ: What are you like off-camera? When you have free time, what do you do for fun?

Syren: I do stuff with my car. I am a car enthusiast so I am a part of a few car clubs here in Washington. I customize, modify, show my car, race it....

CJ: What kind of music do you like?

Syren: I am completely eclectic. It all totally depends on my mood. Adult contemporary, a little bit of RB, some hip hop, a little bit of country, moreso from a while ago, not so much now, alternative, heavy metal, hard rock, electronic, erotic...whatever I feel like. And I actually do use music to help me meditate if I need to or help me change my mood.

CJ: Do you have any favorite movies?

Syren: I have kids so I just saw Frozen 2. (laughs) But we can go back in the day Pretty Woman, An American Werewolf in London, psychological thrillers, horror flicks back in the 80s were so much better than they are now. Certain rom-coms, I LOVE sci-fi! Some dramas. I love Titanic too. I've got quite a movie collection. I still have some on VHS, I have DVDs and, of course, a digital library.

CJ: What's your favorite TV shows?

Syren: I do not watch TV if I don't have too! (laughs)

CJ: What's your favorite food?

Syren: Chocolate!
